CFC’s 2024 “Corporate Citizenship Report: Powering the Future of Rural America,” which highlights the many ways CFC and its electric cooperative-members make the world a better place, is now available as a PDF download. Members can also preview the report via an interactive digital experience on CFC’s website.
The report includes key data and information about CFC’s support of electric cooperatives’ investment in renewable energy, grid resilience and broadband infrastructure—resources that are critical to the economic vitality and quality of life of any community, but particularly valuable in rural America, which represents 70% of our nation’s “persistent poverty counties,” according to Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.
A key takeaway of the report is that CFC and its members are leading the way with renewable energy adoption and achieving success with meeting sustainability goals. One example highlighted in the report is Virginia-based generation and transmission cooperative Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC), which has established an ambitious goal to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050. In 2023, ODEC achieved its interim goal of reducing its carbon emissions 50% (from 2005 levels) by 2030.
“As electric cooperatives continue to focus on renewables, energy resilience and broadband, CFC is well-positioned to support their financing needs,” CFC CEO Andrew Don said. “This includes helping electric cooperatives leverage the historic funding opportunities provided by the Inflation Reduction Act and direct-pay tax incentives for new energy investments.”
The report also includes information on how CFC helps electric cooperatives give back to their communities, whether it is through contributions from the CFC Educational Fund or through the proceeds CFC pays to participate in the USDA’s Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant program, which supports economic development at the local level.
“Like our member-owners, CFC is demonstrably committed to help create a better, more sustainable world,” CFC Board President David Felkel added.
