2022 NCB Co-op 100 Includes 22 Electric Cooperatives, CFC

National Cooperative Bank (NCB) recently released its 31st annual Co-op 100 list, which ranks the nation’s top cooperative enterprises by annual revenue. Electric cooperatives are well represented with 17 generation and transmission (G&T) cooperatives, five distribution cooperatives and CFC. 

Electric cooperatives, including CFC, accounted for a combined $23.8 billion in revenue in 2021, a more than 10 percent increase from the prior year. The highest-ranked G&T is North Dakota-based Basin Electric Power Cooperative at number 17 with $2.6 billion in revenue, while the highest-ranked distribution cooperative is Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation at number 71 with $847 million in revenue.  

The G&T and distribution cooperatives with the biggest moves are Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation up 24 spots to number 56 with $1.1 billion in revenue and Texas-based Pedernales Electric Cooperative up 18 spots to number 72 with $827 million in revenue. 

CFC came in at number 51, down seven spots. Alabama-based G&T Power South Energy Cooperative rejoined the top 100 at number 92 with $640 million in revenue. 

The top 100 cooperatives generated revenues of $255 billion, an increase of 11 percent from 2020. Agribusiness cooperative CHS, Inc., headquartered in Minnesota, topped the chart again with more than $38.4 billion in revenue.
